Description
When one door closes, another one opens – an extremely relevant sentiment given that the sneakersphere is currently preparing for a big 2023! From fireworks to the Lion Dance, China sure knows how to bring color and celebration to the annual Lunar New Year festivities. So it should come as no surprise that footwear brands look to work in many of these colorful elements when it comes to their annual Chinese New Year footwear collections. Already we’ve seen two Dunk Lows dedicated to this year’s celebratory animal, the rabbit, as well as a slew of multi-color, multi-Swooshed releases that serve as a secondary collection without any obvious callouts to the annual animal. That being said, this new Nike Air Force 1 Low “CNY” is heavy-handed on the extras, but like other like-minded releases, this doesn’t directly call out the Chinese New Year, instead opting for oriental patterns and embroidery — and it does so in a traditional Chinese palette.
the latest pair of Air Force 1s are giving some major 2011 AF-1 ‘Year of the Rabbit’ vibes.Rich in golden hues for good luck, the pair is centered around light tan leather uppers, with overlays of a traditional vachetta working across the toe, eyestay, and quarter panels. These are pinned with decorative floral threadwork, which is consistent with Nike’s overarching CNY collection, so too is the furry white Swoosh and heel overlays that serve as a not-so-subtle nod to the YEar of the Rabbit. There’s a handful of jade green and red accents for good measure, with marbled jelly outsoles, special graphic tongue tags and insoles, and thin rope laces rounding out the design.
Like the 2011 release, the pairs also feature fluffy white Swooshes and red ‘Air’ branding on the soles.
